The City of St. Jude is a Catholic, non-profit organization dedicated to the spiritual, health, social and educational needs of all people, regardless of their religious affiliation, sex, race or national origin. To thousands of underprivileged families, we are a helping hand in meeting their most basic human needs. To children who are developmentally disabled, we are nurturers, protectors and comforters. To the senior residents, we are a safe, affordable haven and community. Founded by Father Harold Purcell in 1934, The City of St. Jude is located in west Montgomery, in the heart of the community of people we serve. The spirit of St. Jude lives in the hearts of its gracious donors all across the globe. Our missions function through the donations and volunteer efforts of generous patrons all over the world. The site was also the first integrated hospital in the southeastern United States where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King's two oldest children were born. The final campsite of the Selma-to-Montgomery March and site of the "Stars for Freedom" rally featuring Harry Belafonte, Mahalia Jackson, Leonard Bernstein, Sammy Davis Jr., the cast of "Bonanza" and many others. Free Admission. Open Mon.- Fri.
